Training Early in the morning

Why wake up early to train

Prioritise time for Fitness!!!

Hopefully you’ve spent some time thinking about the vision you have for yourself, you’ve made some decisions and set some health goals. Now you need to prioritise some time towards it.

PEOPLE ALWAYS MAKE TIME FOR THE THINGS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO THEM!!!!

I know it sounds simple to get up at least half an hour earlier and train or go for a walk and we always have the best of intentions, but why don’t we do it?

It’s easy to get up, but it’s also easy to hit the snooze button, go back to sleep and say to yourself ‘I’ll do it tomorrow’, then before you know it a few weeks or months have passed and so it still remains an intention.

There are some amazing benefits associated with early morning exercise:

  • From 5am your mind, focus, willpower and energy is at it’s peak.
  • If you exercise first thing you feel better all day plus it eliminates the risk of running out of time to train later.
  • Waking up early allows you time to prepare your day and gives you an enormous psychological edge.
  • Sunrise is the most beautiful time of the day. It’s often quiet and it’s a wonderful feeling knowing you’re out doing something towards your health and others are still in bed.

If you find it challenging or have some blocks about getting up early you need to think of some solutions. You have to know in advance what will make you come undone and solve it!!!

  • Get your workout clothes ready the night before (I’ve even had some clients sleep in their gym gear!)
  • Put your phone or alarm across the other side of your room and once you’re up refuse to go back to bed.
  • Make a decision the night before and stick to it. Don’t question it once your alarm goes off in the morning, just get straight into action.
  • Tell your partner your commitment and get them to encourage (or kick you out of bed lol)

Get dressed walk outside and walk to the corner. If then you decide you don’t want to go any further and go back to bed, then do just that. But the catch is you won’t!!! Once you take action and start your workout or walk, you will keep going.

Getting started is the hardest part and often you have to take the ‘feeling’ out of it and just get on with it. Most mornings I’m up at 4am. Do I ‘feel’ like it….hell no!!! If I did what I ‘felt’ like I would hit snooze and roll over, especially in winter. So how do I do it? Honestly I don’t think about it. It’s just a decision I’ve already made. I put my alarm across the other side of the room so I have to physically get out of bed. Sometimes I sit on the ground and think ‘why?’ lol, then my inner voice say’s ‘get your arse up’ and I walk straight to the bathroom, cleanse and moisturise my face, brush my teeth and put on my clothes that I had already laid out. Once I’ve done that I’m wide awake and have no desire to go back to bed.

So ask yourself ‘How important is my health to me?’

Just make a commitment to yourself to try every day for a week to get up earlier or put aside 30 mins to exercise or walk. After a week see how it feels. You will find it’s probably not that hard to do once your honest with yourself and make a decision that you commit to. At the end of the week you will feel pleased with yourself and have more energy.

Get this one habit right and you’ll achieve more in a day than most will in a month!
