The Path to Success

Success and failure are largely the result of Habit!

You need to have a goal! We may be very busy, we may be very efficient, but we are only truly effective when we begin with the end in mind. You need to know what you want, what does success look like to you? It could be success in your health, your fitness, your relationships, your family, your personal life, your finances, your career. Whatever it may be for you, you need to have a picture of what you would like to achieve.

I love this quote pictured. We can have all the visions in our mind of what we want to achieve, but unless we take action and incorporate daily disciplines that will take us one step closer towards our goal, we will never achieve it.

Changes we want to make in our life come only in the present. What we do now controls who we become and where we are in the future. We can’t keep putting off until tomorrow.

Motivation gets you going, but discipline and habit keeps you going.

Consistency is the key.

Which brings me to the ‘Slight edge principle’ – Easy to do, Easy not to do.

Every daily simple decision you make will lead you towards success and your goal or away from it.

It’s easy to make a decision to wake up early and fit in a workout before your day begins, but it’s easy not to do and hit the snooze button.

It’s easy to make a decision to commit to eating healthy, but it’s easy not to follow through and give in to the heat of the moment when you’re out with friends and they’re offering you something you know isn’t a good choice.

It’s easy to decide to prepare your meals in advance, but it’s easy not to do when you get home from work tired and decide you would rather sit in front of the tv.

You get my point!

Simple disciplines made consistently day in and day out will lead to you achieving your goal as easy as

Simple errors in judgement made consistently over time will lead to failure.

Often the ingredient missing behind all of the actions and habit is your philosophy or clarity on your values. Once you are crystal clear on what you want it will change the way you think and the daily action steps you take.

The successful person has formed the habits of doing the things that others don’t like to do.

The successful person doesn’t necessarily like doing them either, but the results and purpose far outweigh the dislike for doing them.

It’s not unusual for me to wake up at 4.30am to train early before I get the kids ready for school. Do I love it? No! Not at the time, particularly after a late night. I would love to ignore my alarm and go back to sleep for just a few more hours. But I know from experience I will feel amazing and have more energy after I work out. But my decision to actually jump out of bed goes back to my goal of being fit and healthy and having energy to keep up with life and my kids. Which then goes back to my core values which are my family and my health.

People will make the time for the things they value.

Remember if you always do what you’ve always done,

Then you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten.

If you want a different result then you will have to be prepared to change.
